What You Need to Know About Water Quality

As life in America goes on, we’ve become accustomed to having a variety of viable sources of drinking water at our disposal to choose from. From flavored water to spring water and even alkaline water, these sources are conveniently available to quench our thirst.

Unfortunately – Flint, Michigan isn’t the only place in America that’s facing a clean water crisis.

An NRDC study determined that every state in the country has a contaminated municipal water supply that may harm human health.

NRDC and the Safe Drinking Water Act

In June 2016, the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) released a special report that analyzed the 2015 drinking water data from across the USA.

The NRDC found that one-third of the nation’s 52,000 community drinking water systems violated the Safe Drinking Water Act. This means that roughly 77 million Americans are drinking dirty water that fails to meet water safety standards, which is one-fourth of the population.

What’s even crazier is that there were more than 80,000 reported violations of the Safe Drinking Water Act in 2015 alone!

It may seem hard to accept that one of the most developed countries in the world could suffer from such a basic infrastructure problem.

Yet, it’s true.

The clean water crisis is a global issue, which could very well be affecting you and your family.

What’s in Your Water?

Millions of people drink tap water every day that is legal – but may not be healthy for them to consume. These problems can stem from a lack of awareness and understanding of what can even be lurking around in the water.

But see…what you don’t know about your water can kill you. There are only 91 contaminants regulated by the Safe Drinking Water Act, yet more than 60,000 chemicals are used within the United States, according to the EPA.

What’s more shocking is that since 2000 – NOT ONE chemical has been added to the list of those regulated by the Safe Drinking Water Act!

Here are three main harmful ingredients to take into consideration regarding your water source:

  • Bacteria and Contaminants
  • Metals
  • Chemicals and Toxins

Bacteria and Contaminants

bacteria

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, over 63 million Americans (one-fifth of the nation) were directly exposed to unsafe drinking water more than once in the last decade.

These EPA findings are significant and cast a dark shadow on how local water systems across the country have endured dealing with bacteria and contaminants in their water for 60 years from recurring environmental issues. Some of these recurring issues include farming pollution, industrial dumping, and distribution pipe deterioration.

Local water treatment plants have tried to clean and filter their water from contaminants and bacteria such as arsenic, fecal matter, and nitrates over the years. However, many of the local plants have continuously run into problems getting the job done because they can’t afford the proper equipment. These plants are typically located in poor, small, and minority communities.

As a result – these troubled local plants took an average of more than 2 years to clean and filter their water to resolve previous EPA violations. In fact – some of those local plants only recently resolved EPA violations that were decades-old, while other local plants are STILL delivering tainted water to the community.

Additional bacteria that can be found in your tap water includes E. coli, Vibrio, legionella, and much more. These bacteria stem from improper septic tank systems and animal run-off.

Many water filtering plants and systems in underserved communities do not have the capacity to filter out these harmful microbial contaminants. One solution to this water filtration problem is to use a water ionizer.

By using a water ionizer – you can help remove and filter many of these harmful bacteria and contaminants to create alkaline water – the cleaner, healthier water option.

Metals

lead poisoning

In the late 1800s, water was identified as a source of lead poisoning from lead pipes used to transport drinking water throughout the United States. There’s no greater example of the harm that lead pipes can do to your water than the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.

In 2014, local government officials decided to temporarily switch Flint’s drinking water source from Lake Huron and the Detroit River to the lesser maintained Flint River while a new pipeline was under construction to deliver water from Lake Huron to Flint.

However, the lack of proper water filtration in the Flint River allowed contaminants from the river water and lead pipes to seep into the drinking water source. Flint residents and other locals were left infuriated and forced to turn to other means to obtain clean water.

Bottled water was then distributed throughout Flint, but the water problem was large enough for Flint officials to suggest water filtration systems and water ionizers as the cleaner, healthier solutions to the lead problem.

But, Flint is not alone. In 2015, 18 million people drank water from drinking water systems around the United States that had outstanding lead violations.

Flint doesn’t even show up in the EPA database as having lead violations! This alarming exclusion notably illustrates the ongoing problem of underreporting that suggests that our lead crisis could be even bigger than we realize.

In July 2018 – Elon Musk, notable tech billionaire, pledged to personally pay for any home in Flint whose water contamination levels are above federally accepted levels.

Even though lead is a natural element – lead is also dangerous and toxic and has no place in your water.

Water that contains lead can cause serious illness to multiple parts of your body and is especially harmful to young children.

You see…there are many natural elements that can be found in alkaline water, but the lead isn’t one of them.

In fact – lead is NOT FOUND in alkaline water that is properly produced through a premium water ionizer with filtration safeguards in place.

Chemicals and Toxins

Improperly disposed pharmaceuticals are just one of the many ways in which chemicals and toxins can find their way into your drinking water source. Many water treatment plants are not equipped with the proper technology to detect and filter out all the chemicals.

Additional chemicals and toxins that you can find in your tap water include chlorine and mercury, among others.

When using a non-electric water ionizer such as HydrogenX – multiple pre-filters are used to remove these harmful chemicals and toxins from the tap water before transforming the water into hydrogen-rich alkaline water that is clean and safe to drink.

Some common reasons why people drink from a water ionizer are to help rid their body of harmful toxins and free radicals that can damage the cells in their body, and to purify their body from the inside out.

However, if you’re drinking from your regular water source without using a water ionizer, you may be ingesting more chemicals and toxins instead of flushing them out.
